Brainstorming New Plastic Pollution Solutions:
Creating an Action Plan for Government and Business
March 5, 2018, 12-5pm, Columbia University, New York City
This invite-only workshop focused on solutions to the global problem of plastics pollution, and created a list of options for city and state governments as they commit to fighting the negative impact of climate change.
See notes from the day’s session.
The meeting was be held at Columbia University, School of Engineering.
Once the list is created, we hope to use the ideas put forward to serve as the basis for a larger discussion on solutions to plastics pollution to be held in September 2018, most likely in New York City.
Exploring Plastic Pollution Solutions:
June 6, 2017, 1-5pm, Columbia University, New York City
Ocean Recovery Alliance, Mission Blue and IUCN joined the Grace Richardson Fund in an exploratory meeting to probe the applicability of Clean Tax Cuts on the problem of plastics pollution.
While great progress has been made in sorting, recycling and efforts of many corporations to significantly reduce their use of plastic, the problem of waste, excessive single-use plastic items and barriers to effective recycling must be overcome. The problem of plastic pollution in the ocean is even more vexing, since no one government has jurisdiction over the high seas, making recovery, regulation and enforcement nearly impossible.
